Out of Town Sunday Brunch
Sunday is always a good excuse for us to venture a little further out of the city to explore new brunch places as traffic is usually not that bad. This time we visited this very instagrammable cafe called Emmie’s. It is located in a leafy residential area just off new Rama 9 road. There is no public transport closeby, so you need to either drive there or just get an Uber. On a Sunday it only took us just under 20 minutes from Nana.
Botanical Greenhouse
Once inside we were greeted by a soft dreamy music which sets the mood. The main dining room looks like a beautiful conservatory flooded with natural light thanks to the greenhouse style roofs and window panels. The focal point of the room is dominated by a huge palm tree in the middle of the room. A very long wooden table and benches gives it a warm and rustic feel. We felt like we were in a mini botanical garden.
Cozy Space
There is a courtyard area which leads to more seating in a container like space. The big sofas and cushions makes it look like a very cozy living room. The space seems to be popular with family and group of friends as it is more secluded. Outdoor staircase is decorated with Moroccan style lanterns which leads to more seating upstairs. We can imagine that this would look equally as enchanting in the evening for dinner.
Style and Substance?
Emmie’s definitely has the style, but what about the substance? We ordered an American Breakfast and Shakshuka, which is like a Morrocan style baked egg with tomato sauce seasoned with spices. The American Breakfast is served in a cast iron pan, which looks pretty as well as keeping the food warm. It’s nice to see baked beans included in the American Breakfast and the portion is very decent. It comes with croisssant and butter. The croissant was freshly baked and tasted amazing! A bit crispy on the outside yet light and fluffy on the inside. We asked for jams but unfortunately they don’t stock them here.
The Shakshuka on the other hand comes in a rather small portion. And as a small person it’s really rare for me to say this. Also being a carnivore that I am, I have asked for bacon to be added to Shakshuka (this dish does not come with any meat). So if you like a wholehearted filling brunch and you love meat, this is probably not the dish for you.
Moving on to the beverages. We’re happy that there are nice selections of cold pressed juice and smoothies available. We ordered carrot and orange, and apple and lemon.
Our Verdict
All in all we enjoyed a cozy brunch here on a rainy lazy Sunday. We love the decor and the concept of this space which makes us feel like being miles away from the hectic everyday life of Bangkok. The menu price is definitely higher than your average brunch but the cozy ambiance and good menu selection makes it worth a visit.
