Cafe with a view

Usually we try to avoid reviewing brunch places inside shopping malls due to a lack of ambiance but on this occasion we made an exception for Siwilai. Located on the 5th floor of Central Embassy, we were pleasantly surprised that the cafe also has an outdoor terrace with a nice view overlooking the park down below. The outside seats seem to be quite popular especially during cooler months like January when we visited.

Great for a Workcation

The decor reminded us of Rocket (e.g. Sathorn 10 or Sukhumvit 49) with its big white marble counter. But, as Rocket used to be its partner cafe until 2016, this does not come as a big surprise. The tone is still kept neutral and warm with wooden furniture and green plants dotted all around. There are some power sockets outside so the outdoor terrace is actually not a bad place to get some work done after your brunch.

Thai Influenced Brunch Menu

As for the menu, this definitely looks quite different to Rocket’s: Siwilai’s brunch menu has more Thai accents. For instance, the Eggs Benedict with Siracha (Thai chilli sauce) hollandaise. And Joke, which of course is a classic Thai-Chinese style congee breakfast dish with some braised pork.

We ordered Shakshuka and Eggs Benedicts this time. We were looking forward to trying the Eggs Benedict as the Sriracha Hollandaise sounds really exciting. However we found the sauce to be quite bland and couldn’t really taste any Sriracha in it at all. Given the higher price tag we also had higher expectation of the ingredients and taste. Shakshuka on the other hand was a better success and well seasoned, although the portion was on the small side.

Siwilai: Our Verdict

Overall we think that it is a nice place to come for a workcation and a decent cup of coffee outside when the weather is not too hot. It can get quite busy indoors, so better arrive before 10am if you want to have seating options. It’s a good option if you would like to get some digestive (window) shopping done at Central Embassy after your brunch.
