Oasis in Urban Jungle
Lady L is a charming European-style bistro situated in Nai Lert Park Heritage Home (not far from Chitlom BTS station). The restaurant is tucked away in this lush green part of Bangkok in Somchit Alley. The venue also hosts another Thai restaurant called Ma Maison inside, which is popular as a small and intimate wedding venue due to its enchanting garden.
Cosy Greenhouse
Once step inside, the space gives a very warm yet elegant feel about it. The marble table tops and hanging plants from the ceiling and the big tree inside the conservatory creates a lush ambiance perfect for an afternoon tea or a posh weekend brunch.
We get there at our typical brunch o’clock (around 10:30am). It’s a public holiday weekend so the place is not so busy, yet most of the other tables have a ‘reserved’ sign on them. So it seems Lady L might be quite popular for lunch.
Plush is the Word
The bistro is divided into two sections, the glasshouse area and the café area. We were seated in the former and were treated to a comfy sofa seat for two, filled with plush designer fabric cushions. A cosy arrangement for a quiet brunch date.
It was a bit sunny on the day we went, so the staff kindly put on the blind for us (we didn’t know they made blinds for conservatories, pretty cool(ing) stuff).
Lady L Breakfast Sets
There are a handful of themed breakfast sets which include a fresh juice of the day and a hot beverage (coffee or tea). This time we opted for The Londoner and The Parisian breakfast sets. The Londoner is essentially a full English breakfast with 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, baked beans and a choice of toasts or crumpets. The Parisian comes with a choice of croissant, yogurt granola and ham and cheese crepe.
The products used were of high quality; freshly squeezed orange juice, freshly baked pastry and creamy Greek yogurt were all part of the set. Little things like this definitely make a difference in our overall scoring of a place.
A small note on the crêpe is that we felt that it was well cooked but the batter was slightly on the sweet side. Perhaps this is common for the Thai’s palette, but if this is not your thing, you can tell the chef to leave sugar out of your savoury crêpe.
The Verdict
We like the sumptuous yet cosy feel of the place, ideal for a quiet brunch date or a birthday brunch. The breakfast set offers great value for money, which includes fresh juice and coffee.
