How to get there
Candide Books & Cafe (or Library at Candide, or Li-bra-ry, or Library at Jam Factory) is a cafe in a converted warehouse close to the river Chao Phraya next to the Hilton Millennium. You can get there by car or motorcycle, or alternatively take the ferry from the Sheraton Grande across the river and walk about 200 meters to the cafe. The Library Cafe is located in the third building after two similarly-styled warehouse restaurants (one serving international and the other Thai dishes).
The cafe overlooks a courtyard with some grass and stylish walls. You might wonder why this is worth mentioning, but when you sit in the cafe and observe the couples that roam around the square taking selfies or pose casually in front of a concrete wall (#friendsandwalls #bangkokfashion) you’ll understand.
Library Cafe Venue
Li-bra-ry serves nicely brewed single origin beans and the latte is excellent. The cafe is fitted out with plenty of plugs, the glass tables are nice and big, and the wifi is stable (but a bit slow). The lamps hanging from the ceiling 5 meters above resemble the ones you could find in public libraries, creating a focused and calm atmosphere, making it enjoyable to spend time at the venue. Bring your laptop to get some work done, or if you feel like some inspiration, browse the book shop adjacent to the cafe area and pick up an interesting lecture that will go well with your chosen hot (or cold) beverage.
The waffles are yum, try the signature one. There are some cakes to further spike your blood sugar levels; unfortunately there are no savory dishes, but some good restaurant options are within walking distance.
Verdict
All in all we can recommend Li-bra-ry Cafe at Candide for a “home office” day or a digital nomad to get some work done, or for instagrammers who need to re-energize after an exhausting 30 minutes at the courtyard 🙂
